Pfascinating Pfizer Science Jamboree
June 2010 |
|
 |
| |
Held annually during the Summer term, the Jamboree showcases exciting science activities for children from our Partner Primary Schools.
June 2009 marked the 16th successive Jamboree, attracting 2000 children from more than 45 primary and special schools. Over 150 Pfizer scientists were involved in running activities and a large number of staff and volunteers also helped out.
This year the Pfascinating Pfizer science Jamboree is set to be held on the 23rd and 24th of June at the Pfizer sports and social club.
Children will take part in three hands-on activities and view the 'Air Show' featuring Gareth Marshall and John Coad, which in the past has been greatly enjoyed by pupils and teachers. Gareth and John's demonstrations range from balloon surfing to shrink wrapping children and are both educational and entertaining. The show culminates in a cucumber flying through the air at a grating, to be instantly formed into finely chopped crudités.
Applications for the 2010 Jamboree are now closed. Applications for a travel grant are now open. Please apply using the link on the right.

What is he doing?
What a silly question! It's Chas, Kent Wildlife Trust's answer to David Bellamy and as usual at the Jamboree he is making a lovely bit of compost.

Let me hold your hand
What is with the purple hand? Children loved this demo - 'Fun with carbon dioxide'. When solid dry ice was put into a glove it turned to gas, inflating the glove. Why is it called dry ice?

Lovely maggots!
Children loved this box of maggots Not! A serious point though, maggots help to decompose waste. This demonstration - 'The Cycle of Life' was all about nature's way of decomposing and recycling.

Pfizzing Pfizer & pH
pH is a measure of strength of acids and alkalis. Here children tested the pH of substances and found out what acids will do.
