Discovering New Medicines A resource for KS4

Please follow the link on the right to our 'Discovering New Medicines' resource. It provides information on the development of medicines and also looks at a number of case studies of successes and failures.

Please note that the board game is still being developed and although it is ready to use now, there are a few changes to be made in the next couple of weeks.

You can also download a pdf of the game board as two A3 sheets, instead of just one. Please follow the link on the right of this page. Everything else you need can be downloaded from the Discovering New Medicines resource.

There are 2 sections to the new resource:

Developing New Medicines

New for 2007 this resource covers all that is needed on the drug discovery process for the KS4 curriculum. Case studies are described that show some of the successes and failures of real science at work. Above all we hope students will be inspired by the exciting, creative science that is involved.

'The Patient is Waiting Board Game'

This board game is designed to give students an insight into the process of drug discovery and development, and therefore develop an understanding of `how science works' in this specific context in the real world.

It aims to give students an idea of the process by which new drugs are developed, tested and trialed and the importance of these stages. It also covers revision of material on drug development and testing.

You can download everything you need to play by following the link to the 'Discovering New Medicines' website. Please read the Teacher's Notes document, which will tell you how to set everything up.
